One thing we know when it comes to our skin – and I mean for men AND women both – is that we’re really, really self-conscious about it, and we want it to look good.
It doesn’t matter whether we’re 18 or 38 or 78 – we want the absolutely best looking and healthiest skin we can. And we’re willing to do a lot to get it! At least I believe that the majority of us feel that way!
So, because this particular writer counts herself (ummm… that would be me) as part of that majority, she figured she would share something… Ok, I figured I would share something. Enough of the formalities!
There is an interesting product by a group called DelfogoRx called “Telomere DNA Cell Cream.” Now, while this doesn’t appear to be a completely new product, I couldn’t find out a whole lot about it, but according to their company’s website, it seems to have a bit of science behind it.
What initially struck me were the words in the name itself – Telomere, and DNA. Then, looking further at the ingredients, we see that the compound highlights a particular trademarked ingredient called “Renovage” which appears to be comprised of Teprenone (or geranylgeranylacetone [GGA], [6,10,14,18-tetramethyl-5,9,13-nonadecatetren-2-one]), which was invented by Karl Lintner, Claire Mas Chamberlin for a company called Sederma (to which the patent was assigned). I talk briefly about Sederma, as well as Delfogo on the next page, just in case you have an interest in their work, and why Teprenone is so important to the formulation of Telomere DNA Cell Cream.
It is not my place to attempt to understand the science behind Telomeres and how Teprenone is effective in protecting skin at a cellular level (after all, I don’t have to be a plumber to understand how the toilet flushes – all I need to know is that it WILL flush!). You can easily go to the Delfogo site get an overview that is written in words that laymen such as myself understand.
For now, let me get into the product itself.
I have lived in places with heavy duty sunshine and harsh weather that never bothered me much in my younger years; however, in recent years, my skin has begun to show signs of aging. I do not have many wrinkles (I am 55 years old); however, I do have a very – let’s call it “ruddy” complexion that gets a lot of comments when I’m in public. This is primarily due to exposure over the years. My face has numerous spider veins – sometimes mistaken for rosacea (which, doctors have said, it is not). This partially runs in my family, and my eastern European fair skin doesn’t make it easier. My skin has also gotten a bit “rough” in recent years. I do drink a lot of water, so I don’t believe that it is due to dehydration.
Past Experiments:
I’ve tried a number of products, including one that had a number of really gentle herbs and extracts such as willow bark extract, aloe vera, green tea, cucumber and others – and it did help with my general skin tone and feel. It was most certainly softer. But, what I was really looking for was a product that would minimize the redness that seems to get exacerbated in heat, windy or cold conditions, and after exercise (which pretty much sums up “every day of my life”).
I’m at a point where I am willing to try things even if the claims aren’t recognized by Oprah or Dr. Oz (although I wouldn’t doubt it if they start talking about this stuff). So, upon receiving my package (I did NOT go with the automatic delivery at the time, because I really just wanted to try it before upgrading my order to the 45 day auto ship program).
Telomere DNA Cell Cream Ingredients:
So, first I’ll list the ingredients – you can look them up if you wish (I did, because I needed to be sure I’m not allergic to any of them – I have a skin allergy to stuff with “cinnamates” [think “sunscreen allergy”] and “Balsam of Peru” in it – something I found out the hard way one summer after slathering myself with a perfectly ordinary sunscreen for weeks on end). Here is the list:
Purified Water (Aqua), Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Teprenone, Polyacrylate 13, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycierin
What they say to do:
The directions tell you to NOT rub it in, just to put it on in an upwards direction. I have a hard time following directions, and had to fight the urge to rub it in thoroughly! But, I was able to control myself, and just followed the darned directions. So far so good.
The company does want you to use the product for at least 30 days in order to give it a real chance to make a difference. In other words, don’t use it for a couple of days and expect results, because you won’t see them. I didn’t see them, and neither with you. So, stay with the protocol, and make note of the changes as you begin to notice them.
I would say that I only forgot to apply the cream a couple of times in the first 3 weeks, because it was a new habit I had to form. After that, I stopped thinking about it, and I just put it on at night as part of my nightly routine after brushing and flossing.
Results – the only thing that matters:
I did not expect a miracle, and I didn’t see one. Maybe I should have? In other words, in the first 3 weeks I used the cream, I did not suddenly look 35 (who said that “50 is the new 30?” Bull!). But, honestly? I didn’t expect to see 20 years drop from my face in 3 weeks. That happened in the FOURTH week! Ha ha! I’m kidding!
Seriously, here is what I did notice:
Smoother skin: This is absolutely wonderful for me, because I have been pretty self-conscious about what I can only describe as a light flakey-rough surface. If I would rub a dark-colored sleeve against my cheek before, I’d get a “flakey” type of residue on my sleeve. I’m not seeing that now!
Wrinkles less noticeable? I put a question mark on that, because I’m not 100% certain – and I think it’s because now that I think about it, I didn’t really have a lot of wrinkles (at least not yet!) other than a few “laugh lines” around my eyes. But, what I believe is happening here is that it’s not as much a “line” issue as it is that my skin might be retaining a bit more moisture than before. Whatever… It’s soft, and smoother, and that’s really the important thing.
Spider veins: This may be my overactive imagination, but I’m seeing a lighter tone to my skin. Yes, I can still see veins, but they seem smaller to me. I asked my husband if he noticed it, and he (wisely) said, “Honey, I never really noticed them to begin with.” (Uh huh… sure!) But, he did follow up with, “But, Yeah, I think your skin is looking a little lighter.”
A plus for me (because I worked in a biological testing lab many moons ago) is that they do NOT test their products on animals.
I don’t want this long write-up to sound like I’m now a poster-child for the company, so I feel the need to throw in a little balance here. Honestly, I don’t know if it will help get rid of age spots because I haven’t tried it on any – the only place I can see what I would consider an age spot is on my hand, and so, I might use just a dab of the cream on that little spot and see what happens. But, again, it’s not something that’s really important to me right now.
The company’s customer service is good – when I called, they were polite and definitely knowledgeable. I read their terms of service before I called, and they do say that if you aren’t showing any improvement after a month, to call them for a consultation to work on improving the protocol for your particular situation. I haven’t had to do that, so I cannot truthfully tell you what they say in that event.
As far as price is concerned, if you just want to try it for a month or so, just buy the single bottle (it’s only a 1-ounce jar, but it goes a long way) first. If you like it (and I do), then you can go on their 45-day auto ship which results in a considerable savings.
If you DO go on their auto-ship, just note that you’ll need to call BEFORE the 45th day if you want to cancel the auto-ship.
Anyway, that’s about all I’ve got on this particular product! Give the company a shout to see about trying it for yourself. You don’t have to buy anything when you call – you can call just to ask questions, too. You may not be thinking of this if you’re only 20 years old, but trust me… before too long, you will!
